CW office
Title:  CW office
Description:  Restoration is underway!! The local lumber yard, R.S. Monger & Sons is restoring the badly rundown & neglected office & depot. Workers are currently restoring the outside brick veneer and a closer look will show the new copper flashing over the offset of the main entrance. The lumber yard plans to put a showroom on the first floor and offices in the second floor. They are also talking about putting a museum in the depot part dedicated to railroading. It was a good day to hear and see this news as a part of railroad history will be preserved and put to use.

Grain Train
Title:  Grain Train
Description:  NS V91 Grain train special seen here is passing the old CW freight depot/office has the ground shaking as its 4000 horse power units are thumping away to push its 92 loaded cars through town to one of the local grain elevators. The old depot is currently undergoing renovations and will soon have active business once again. More to come on that as the opportunity arises.

Restorations near completion
Title:  Restorations near completion
Description:  After many years of abandonment, neglect and two devastating fires the old Chesapeake Western office & Depot was sold to a local business whom then invested in the buildings future. Local firms were hired and extensive restorations and work has been ongoing for several months. The renovations are nearly complete with a highly anticipated move in date sometime this month. Most of the original interior design on the main floor, I am told, has been kept intact and preserved and will be used as a showroom for the local business whom purchased the property from Norfolk Southern after many years of relentlessly asking for them to sell to the building. The 2nd floor will house a local architectural and several other companies involved in this project. The freight depot has been planned to be turned into a museum dedicated to all things related the Chesapeake Western Railway. I have watched from a distance as this once rundown dilapidated eyesore of a building has been transformed once again into the architectural splendor it once was the day it first opened in 1913. And yes I be will one of the first to buy a ticket to the museum and then reminisce of the days gone by when I walked its floors as young boy while waiting on my pops to finish his paper work after a long days work on the "Crooked & Weedy".

Sunset on the CW
Title:  Sunset on the CW
Description:  After a bad stormy and rainy day that brought major flooding to several parts of the commonwealth, I was blessed to be out with my wife and kids and catch this beautiful sunset. Not always do you see a rainbow after a storm but a sunset like is just as promising.

Running Lite
Title:  Running Lite
Description:  V94 is running lite back to the yard after switching local grain elevators North of town. This line was originally a B&O passenger line and the wall to the right marks the original property line where the B&O "Union Station" passenger station once stood. The building was used by the B&O RR as a passenger station until 1941. It then stood vacant for several years and was purchased by the Wetsel Seed Company (pictured in the background) whom then in 1944 torn the station down and turned the land into a parking lot. The area now is walled and topped with razor barbed wire to deter anyone wishing to escape the "Downtown Hilton"

Candy Cane Express
Title:  Candy Cane Express
Description:  N&W #41 (Formerly Chesapeake Western #11) is pulling the Candy Cane Express out of the yard, carrying parents and their little ones on a short ride up to Shaffers Crossing and back. Thanks to the many efforts of Roanoke Chapter NRHS for restoring her back to working order. After a long life on the Chesapeake Western pulling freight, this short little passenger train was a treat to see and ride again for this CW fan.
